Submitted by Sherman Tylawsky, candidate for Nevada U.S. Congressional District 2

At a 1986 political rally here in Nevada, former President Ronald Reagan once said that “people my age deeply believe it’s our duty to turn over to you young Americans the same freedom and opportunity that our parents and grandparents handed on to us.”
Our campaign believes in passing on that freedom and opportunity to future generations of northern Nevadans.
We envision a district that grows sustainably to become more economically competitive, strengthens our national security, upgrades our critical infrastructure, and conserves our natural resources. Our district needs a young, practical, conservative northern Nevadan who has the congressional experience, dedication, and responsible values to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Here is why I am your candidate to represent our district in our nation’s capital.
Firstly, although I am young, I have the unique experiences of knowing what it is like to work in Congress. As a two-time former congressional intern, I have personally assisted two senior members of Congress – Rep. Mike Thompson and Rep. Jody Hice – and have deep knowledge about our federal policymaking process. These two members and their staff taught me how to put constituents first. You have my commitment to put constituents first every day as your next U.S. Representative.
We not only need more young people to serve in office, but also more pragmatic governance from our young people. Voters often tell me they are fed up with the dysfunction, partisanship, polarization, and poor behavior among political leaders in Washington. It is time to govern, do the hard work, and get things done.
Our campaign is dedicated to practical conservatism. It is a commitment to conservative values while governing with facts on the ground. It is about preserving our fundamental institutions and values of freedom, opportunity, and justice that have defined America for 250 years. It is about serving for the interests of constituents and our country. I am the dedicated candidate with the energy and charisma to treat the position as a full-time, 24/7 job.
I am also responsible for my core, conservative principles. Policy issues always change, but my principles of patriotism, faith, national unity, education, fiscal responsibility, and civility have never changed and will never change. We need to return to the principles of good governance set by George Washington and our Founding Fathers. That is why I founded The George Washington Institute and host my own podcast Friends & Fellow Citizens, which has more than 200 episodes hearing from dedicated Americans who have served their communities. I am an avid listener and communicator who will always give constituents a voice in D.C.
The late President George H.W. Bush famously said: “Public service is a noble calling.”
Let us answer the call and restore practical conservatism for future generations of Nevadans. I am the young, dedicated, responsible, and practical conservative to serve as your next U.S. Representative of NV-02, and I hope to earn your support and vote on June 9.Sherman Tylawsky is the founder of The George Washington Institute (GWI), host of the Friends & Fellow Citizens podcast, former congressional intern, and an instructor.
